It is part of the cubic crystal family, typically forming in octahedrons, which resemble two pyramids joined at their bases. Nature often produces well-defined spinel crystals. However, spinel may also appear as flattened shapes, vastly different from the typical octahedral form. This occurs when the pyramid components of an octahedron twist during formation, creating what is known as a “twinned crystal.”
